Obituary of Sylvia Melanson, New Waterford

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Melanson at the Cape Breton Regional Regional Hospital Palliative care unit on May 27, 2022. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (MacNeil) Cameron of Victoria Mines. Sylvia will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Romeo Melanson, of 40 years; son, Stephen Melanson, New Waterford; daughter, Andrea (Andrew) Brisbane and grandchildren, Aiden and Lila Brisbane, Fort McMurray; siblings, Hector Cameron, Dartmouth, Ann Stephens, Pickering, ON, Lois Greene-Finney, Calgary, AB, Francis Cameron, Kelowna, BC, Cynthia 'Cindy' Horwath, Sydney and her loving niece and nephew, Joy Swift, Michigan, and Cameron MacLeod, Dallas, Texas; her dear friend, Diane Fraser, New Waterford. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Sandra. Sylvia had a great love for her family and friends. She loved spending summer days on the shore in Low Point, singing songs around the bonfire and listening to Romeo play the guitar. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humour, and her way with words. She will be deeply missed by her family and her numerous friends who loved her. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, Sydney. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 30, 2022 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home.
