We, the loving family of Colleen “Call”, announce her peaceful passing in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 29, 2022, with her family by her side at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay. Colleen Mary Hawryluk, age 83, leaves to mourn her loving husband of 62 years, Dan Hawryluk of Dominion, NS, her children, Janice Helmer (Brent) of Welland, ON, Michael of Eastern Passage, NS, Mary Dyck (Vinko) of Vancouver, BC, grandchildren, Danielle (Brian), Lyndsey (Johnny), Tabatha (Matthew), Michael Glenn (Carissa), Cole, and Colby, and great-grandchildren, Timothy, Mason, Jordyn & Kylie. She is predeceased by her daughter, Ann Walchuk, parents, John & Olive (Rigby) Dauphinee, brothers, Bronson and John Joseph, sister, Gail Martin, and mother-in-law, Olga Thompson. Colleen is survived by her sisters, Theresa Young (Raymond) of Dominion, NS, Irene Lawson (Jim) of Hants County, NS, Marilee Young (Rick) of Coldbrook, NS, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. On October 17, 1938, Colleen was born at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Glace Bay, NS and made her home in Dominion, NS, where she lived for 83 years. She deeply loved her mom and dad and was a fierce protector of her sisters and brother. In Colleens’ younger years, she enjoyed the crashing waves, long walks, and tranquil sunsets along Dominion Beach, the Big Reef, and Park Street shore. She was outgoing, kind, big-hearted to all who knew her and well known for her feisty spirit. She enjoyed spending time with family, travelling, and debating politics. She was an avid swimmer and exceptional marble player; some would say she was “the best in town.” She had a special relationship with Olive Liscombe of the Royal Theatre in Dominion, where she had her seat and exclusive use of the front row. Colleen loved her community, was a proud board member at Dominion Rink for many years and served as a crossing guard for Park Street School. The family extends thanks to all the staff of level 2 at Taigh Na Mara, who took exceptional care of her and her family’s needs. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Glace Bay, NS. A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, on Friday, June 03, 2022, at 11:00 AM with Fr. Dan Boudreau presiding. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.
