Obituary of Phyllis (Gillard) Jamieson, Glace Bay

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Phyllis (Gillard) Jamieson, age 86 on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022 at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Theopolous and Rita (Kane) Gillard. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Phyllis worked at the G.I. Plant, Sydney, Highland Fisheries, Glace Bay and did waitressing in local restaurants. She is survived by her sons, John (Lorna), Wally (Patricia), daughters, Debbie (Mark) and Kim, grandchildren, Crystal, Clarrisa, Danielle, Jeffery, Stephanie and great grandchildren, Orrin, Mikayla and Issac. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, James, son, Alexander “Sandy”, infant son, James, brothers, Gordon, Hector, Wallace, Arthur and two sisters, Eileen & Vivian. Mom spent her last years in two wonderful nursing homes. We would like to thank Harbour View Hospital, Sydney Mines for the loving care during her three years there; but mom wanted to come home to Glace Bay, so she spent the last six years in Victoria Haven Nursing Home. All we can say is thank you for the great care she received, the staff were amazing and a special thank you for all the stories and support. Visitation will be held on Monday night, June 6th, 2022 from 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral service is Tuesday afternoon, June 7th at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Lorne MacNeil presiding. Burial in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
