Obituary of Douglas "Doug" MacInnis, Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Edward Douglas (Doug) MacInnis of Glace Bay. Grampy passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Glace Bay General Hospital at the age of 84 after a battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, Doug was the son of the late John and Ethel (Shipley) MacInnis.
He was a dedicated, caring, compassionate husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. In earlier years, he was employed by Milne’s IGA, operated D&M Dairy along side his beloved Mary Anne, and worked at the Heavy Water Plant.
Grampy loved life as was evident on Saturday nights at the Branch 3 Legion where he danced the night away followed by a Tim’s coffee and donut. He was a devoted Montreal Canadiens’ fan and his favourite pastimes were woodworking, feeding the blue jays, riding his Honda moped and, when he became Grampy, watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his loving children, Jacqueline (Donald Headley), Betty (Ricky Reddick), Doug (Marion) and Jay (Aliesje); grandchildren, Richard, Taylor, Brittany, Jordan (Kaylee), Keagan (Holly), Tyrone, Conner (Evan), Graham, and Darcy; great granddaughter, Layla; and sister-in-law Patsy MacNeil as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Anne (MacNeil) MacInnis; sister Joan; and brother Jackie.
The family would like to thank the staff on 3 East at the Glace Bay General Hospital and Dr. Stephanie Ellerker for their care and compassion.
In honouring Grampy’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve St, Glace Bay.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Anne’s Church, Main St, Glace Bay on Monday, July 11 at 10 am with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating. A reception will follow the funeral in the church foyer. Interment in the parish cemetery.
