I would sometimes talk to Billy on the phone when I called another Billy (friend of mine) at McDonald's lane.

So sorry to hear of Billy's passing. He was in for a haircut a few weeks ago and I knew it would be the last time I'd see him. God bless him. I've known Billy since we were kids. Always kind and funny. He made everyone laugh at the shop when he was in, telling everyone I used to cheat off him in grade six. He nicknamed me Orville back then and called me that till the last time I hugged him goodbye. I will miss him. ❤️

Blair...my sincere condolences to you and your family on Billy's passing. When you think of CB and Glace Bay and it's 'characters' Billy was at the top of the list. Always had a good chat whenever we met and he always reminded me of ...the neighbourhood...he's gone way too soon...very sorry for your loss.

We knew Billy for many years, from about the time we moved from Ontario to Nova Scotia more than a few decades ago.
We met Billy through our good friend Connie and from there ,the rest of the family.
For me personally, Billy was a great talker, that is to say, he had a gift of gab like no other. We came home on vacation and he called the house to say hello. We talked about everything under the sun for close to two hours, most of the conversation generated by Billy. He had a good understanding of many things we both shared an interest in and through Billy, I learned a lot.
Billy was an all around good guy who would do anything for you and would give you the shirt off his back if you asked.
Both Billy and I had a common interest where I can say his sage advice helped me in ways that still benefit me to this day and for that I am eternally grateful.
Rest in peace, till we meet up again.

I knew Billy back in elementary school at St. Anne’s and I have fond memories of going down to the Main Event and seeing him behind the bar when I’d come back home for a visit. Bill was always quick with a joke and a smile for me, and always asked how my brother Allan was doing. One Christmas in the very early 80’s I was there with a few friends for some live music and a couple of beers. As we were leaving, some goon blindsided my pal Jerry with a glass pitcher, in a totally unprovoked attack. Billy flew out of nowhere from behind the bar and had the goon pinned to the ground so fast it made my head spin. Jerry ended up in hospital over Christmas and Bill felt so badly when he heard, he showed up at the hospital with a dozen hockey magazines and a carton of Export A to help Jerry pass the time. It was a simple but poignant gesture and it exemplified the kindness in Bill; and it is how I will remember him. My deepest condolences to Billy’s immediate and extended family and friends.
