Obituary of Margaret Hazel Poirier, New Waterford
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Margaret Hazel (Woodland) Poirier, age 73, of New Waterford. Marg or “Nan” as she was affectionately known, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022, with her family by her side.
Born in New Waterford on November 11,1948, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Hazel (Blanchard) Woodland.
Together with her husband Jim, Marg placed a priority on family. Many great family memories were made during visits by her grandsons to Cape Breton; with much time spent picking blueberries, baking, swimming, picnic lunches, and participating in sports nights in the field. Always an animal lover she enjoyed watching wildlife and spending time in the company of family pets. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and many competitive games of Yahtzee.
She will be greatly missed by her husband Jim of 51 years; daughters, Kim (Derrick) Gallant of Lower Onslow, Nova Scotia, Wanda (Martin) Joy of Iqaluit, Nunavut; grandsons, Alex and Jack Gallant, Max and Luke Joy; brother, Herbert (Barb) Woodland; sister, Donna (Kevin) White both of New Waterford; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Marg was predeceased by her brother, Marshall “Red” Woodland and sister-in-law, Ella Woodland, both of New Waterford.
The family would like to thank the healthcare providers who cared for Marg, especially those at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and New Waterford Hospital ( 2nd floor).
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. There will be no visitation or service by request.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or the Cape Breton Shelter - Nova Scotia SPCA. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
