Obituary of Muriel Carmella "Carmel" Burroughs, Dominion

It is with deep sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved mother, Carmel Burroughs on September 12, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Glace Bay, April 28, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Christina Nicholson. Her home was always open and you would never leave hungry. Mom was a member of St Eugene’s parish and was a member of the CWL for many years. Mom and Dad spent many summers in Cheticamp vacationing which she loved dearly.

Mom would never turn down a bingo night, especially with her best friend, Nina.

Carmel is survived by her three sons, Joe (Theresa),Tarbot, Johnny (Dea), Glace Bay, Brian (Brenda), Tarbot; four daughters, Ann Marie (The late Jimmy) Fletcher, Dominion, Francine (Steve) Fortune, Bedford, Cathy Burroughs, Glace Bay and Leanna (Steve) Hartigan, Ben Eoin.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Cecilia Bailey and Georgie Burroughs, numerous nieces and nephews.

Also left to mourn her death are her grandchildren, David, Jennifer, Courtney, Chris, Joey, Cory, Krista, Lesley Anne, Luke, Justin, Lisa, Keith, Brandon, Craig, Christina, Shannon, Tim, Stephen, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Carmel was predeceased by her parents, husband, Neil, daughter, Shelly, son, Neil Jr., son-in-law, Jim, granddaughter, Shellie and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Emma, brother Joseph Nicholson and sister-in-law, Theresa, brother-in-law, Joey, sisters-in-law, Kay and Sharon.

Special thanks to the staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care - Fishermen’s Cove for their care and compassion they gave to Mom over the last couple of years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held on Saturday morning, September 17, 2022 from 9 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am followed by a reception, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Fr. Dan Boudreau presiding. Interment in St. Eugene's Cemetery, Dominion.
