Obituary of June Dwyer, New Waterford
It is with broken hearts that we announce that our dear “Aunt June” passed peacefully at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Nursing Home on September 22, 2022, at the age of 93.
June was born in New Waterford on June 5, 1929. June lived most of her life in New Waterford, moving in 1996 to live with her niece Deborah and her family in Sydney Forks for 16 years. She helped raise her grandnephews, Travis and Tanner, who were like grandsons to her, and were her pride and joy. June was a very important part of our family, and we will miss her dearly.
June lived a long full life. She had many lifelong friends and met new ones along the way. She was very social and loved to have a good time. June worked, at one time, at the Paramount Theatre in New Waterford and finished out her working days as a Ward Clerk at the Outpatients Department of the New Waterford Hospital, retiring at age 65. She made many great friends from her time working at the hospital and continued those friendships long after retirement.
June is survived by her niece Deborah and her husband, Darryl McNeill, Sydney Forks and their sons,Travis (Amber McKinnon) and Tanner. She is also survived by her brother, Jimmy, Glace Bay and his family.
June was predeceased by her parents, and also her brother, Al and sister-in-law, Kay, who were a very important part of her life. She enjoyed many great times with us at our bungalow over the years and we know she will be missed by her friends on Morrison Lane.
June touched many lives in her 93 years. She had many special friends who were so dear to her, but we would like to especially thank Lynn and Bobby Berger for their special friendship with June. June loved her trips to Dartmouth to visit them and shop with Lynn. We would also like to thank the residents of the seniors complex on King Street where June lived for the past 10 years, who were wonderful friends to her. She loved living there and they had many good times together. Thank you as well to the New Waterford Homemakers, the VON, and home care coordinator and friend, Laura Lee Gillis, for their assistance in allowing June to stay living at the seniors complex a bit longer. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff of Mira Bay, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, for taking such good care of June for the past seven months.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a reception to follow in the funeral home.
June was a true animal lover so in lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation to the Cape Breton Shelter - Nova Scotia SPCA, that would be so kind. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
We will keep our wonderful memories of June close to our hearts and will certainly miss her beautiful smile.
