Obituary of Herbert Ambrose Woodland, New Waterford

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Herbert Ambrose Woodland, age 76, of
New Waterford. Herb passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29th, 2022, with his
family by his side. 

Born in New Waterford on March 19, 1946, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Hazel
(Blanchard) Woodland.

He was first and foremost a husband and dad. He will be remembered as a man with a huge
heart. He was funny, kind, humble, forgiving, compassionate and known for looking on the
bright side of just about every situation. When he wasn’t visiting with sisters, brother and
friends, Herb could be found watching his favorite team the Toronto Blue Jays, fiddling with his
computers or on his many trips to Sobeys.

Herb will be greatly missed by his wife Barbara Ann (Newman) Woodland of 53 years; sons,
Paul (Vean) Woodland of Grand Prairie, Alberta; Bob (Deanna) Woodland of Howie Center,
Nova Scotia; grandkids, Paul (Heather) Woodland and Brittany (Greg) Woodland; Jackson and
Abby Woodland; great grandchildren, Austin and Vincent and Arabelle and Charlotte; sister,
Donna (Kevin) White of New Waterford; brother-in-law, Jim Poirier; cousin, John (Judy) Watt;
several nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.

Besides his parents, Herb was predeceased by his sister, Margaret “Margie” Woodland; brother,
Marshall “Red” Woodland and sister-in-law, Ella Woodland, all from New Waterford.

The family would like to thank the healthcare providers who cared for Herb, especially those at
the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and Cape Breton Regional Hospital (Palliative Care).

Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J McGillivray Funeral Home, New
Waterford. There will be no visitation or service by request.
