Obituary of Alfred "Alfie" Acquanis Hart, Glace Bay
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Alfred Hart, Thursday October 13th 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born June 10th 1947 in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late David and Leanna Hart.
Alfred was a lifelong coal miner with a great work ethic which he carried with him into his retirement. He was a man who truly loved going to work every day.
Alfred enjoyed getting to know people and making friends. He could often be found parked in downtown Glace Bay talking with his friends, or “shooting the drag” in his truck. Even as he aged, he continued to enjoy being social and friendly.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Hart, along with his children, Donna (Gary Gracie), Cathy (Michael McInnis), Brenda (Gordon Butts), David, and Alana (Wayne Caines).
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley, Jordan, Lindsey, Kaitlyn, Jessica, Noah, Keyonna, David, and Talia, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Alfred had a special bond with his cousins Mutch MacDonald, Frances Harte and goddaughter Lisa Osborne.
Alfred was predeceased by his parents and sister Betty and her husband Alfred Mottolo.
Always a generous man, he has made arrangements to donate his remains to be part of the Dalhousie Human Body Donation Program for science. He was very proud to know the research would help others in the future.
Alfred will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. We would like to thank the staff on 4B in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Marizone Home Care staff, and EHS staff for the care which he received while there.
A memorial mass will take place on Wednesday, October 19th, 2022 at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. The reception will take place in the church hall.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Glace Bay. On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
