It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our mother, Genevieve (Attwood) McLean, age 96 on Sunday, November 20th, 2022 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Ann Attwood.

Gennie was a stay at home mom.  She was a member of the former St. Leo’s Parish and a longtime member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary.  She was a devoted member of St. Anne’s Parish. Gennie had a great sense of humour and was very compassionate, loving, and generous woman.  She was a very loving family woman.

Gennie is survived by her daughters, Genevieve Nicholson, Louise McNeil, Ann Marie Chauder, Clara (David) Howley and Elizabeth “Liz” Snow, daughter-in-law, Faye McLean, brother, Charles Attwood, 17 grandchildren,45 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Gennie was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, son, Thomas, grandson, Ryan McLean, great granddaughter, Ceilidh Edwards, 5 brothers, 8 sisters and sons-in-law, Dan, Ronnie and Thomas “Coke”.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street Glace Bay.

The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Duaine Devereaux is Thursday, November 24th  at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by a reception in the foyer.  Interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Memorial donations in memory of Gennie may be made to St. Anne’s Roof Fund or a charity of your choice.
