Obituary of Daniel Thomas 'Tommy' Hogan, New Waterford
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Daniel Thomas 'Tommy' Hogan, 74, of New Waterford on January 16, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Tommy was born in New Waterford to the late Mike and Veglia (DeGiobbi) Hogan on September 3, 1948. He was a long-time employee of Devco and most recently at SPS Security. Since his youth, Tommy has been an avid sports enthusiast; playing baseball and hockey growing up in New Waterford. His love of sports would continue as Tommy coached in the New Waterford Minor Baseball Association for years, mentoring the youth with his knowledge of the game that he loved most. For Tommy, other than complaining about the Yankees, he truly enjoyed watching his sons competing in their sports and activities. One of his fondest memories was attending his son Jason's National Championship win for the CBU Capers baseball team in 2005.
Tommy thoroughly enjoyed his daily visits with his friends and family. He loved nothing more than a good chat with anyone, anywhere, anytime. He always looked forward to family gatherings and the holidays for the annual ravioli making tradition. He was a proud 'Roader' who cherished the memories of the days gone by with family and friends. He was a kind and genuine person who cared deeply for those around him.
Tommy is survived by his two sons, Jason (Anne) and Stephen; brothers, Mario (Utah), James (Janet) and Peter (Debbie), as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tommy was predeceased by sisters, Irma and Irene; brothers, Ralph, Michael and Ricky.
Charitable donations in Tommy's memory can be made to the New Waterford Minor Baseball Association.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the staff of the ER and ICU departments at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care he received during his stay.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from noon until the time of funeral service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the K.O.C., New Waterford. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
Rest Easy TomBone, Love you.
