Obituary of Catherine "Kay" Florence Nearing, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our mother, Kay Nearing (nee Gracie), age 90 on Wednesday, January 18^th, 2023 in Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.  

Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late George Gracie and Carolyn Gracie (nee Griffin).

Kay is survived by her husband, Joseph Nearing, her children, Joseph (Susan) Nearing, Coleen Nearing, and Michael Nearing; grandchildren, Robert (Shelley), Carolyn (Joe), Mark (Jacqueline), Jacqueline, and Angelina (Jeff) as well as great- grandchildren Caleb, Julia, Cate, Isabelle, Thomas, Noah, Logan and sisters, Cecilia MacDonald and Carol Andrews.

She was predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, Michael and sisters, Dorothy, Marie Blount and Rose McFadgen.  

Kay spent her last years at Seaview Manor. We are grateful to the staff at Seaview Manor for their loving care. Special thanks to Dr. Mark Ellerker.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street Glace Bay on Monday, January 23^rd at 11:00 am followed by a reception. Fr. Duaine Devereaux presiding. The burial will be held at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
