Obituary of June Cyr

June Cyr Glace Bay It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother June Cyr, age 83. June passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Glace Bay General Hospital on Monday, December 12, 2016. Born in Glace Bay, June was the daughter of the late Daniel and Jessie (McPhee) Campbell. June spent most of her life living in Glace Bay where she worked as a secretary for the Town before she married her husband, Al. June had a passion for music and was a beautiful singer. She was able to showcase this talent at various Rotary shows such as Kiss Me Kate, Carousel, The Sound of Music, The King and I and was one of the original members of the Northwall Theatre group. June was also very sought after to sing in the community at weddings and choirs. June spent a good part of her life volunteering at the Town House, the Cancer Society and the Savoy Theatre. In her later years June’s mobility had decreased and she found a great deal of comfort in spending time with her friends, her family, her church and especially her grandchildren. Left to mourn are her children, Kyle (Michelle) Cyr and Leah (Brian) Donovan, her grandchildren that she adored, Aiden, Allie, Cassie, Sandy, Evan and Olivia. She is also survived by her sister, Lorraine Davidson, brothers, Lenny Campbell, Lloyd (Pearl) Campbell, Charlie Campbell, niece, Lisa Davidson and her nephew Jamie Davidson. She is also mourned by her in laws, Gerald (Resa) Cyr, Linda Matheson, Donnie (Joan ) Cyr, Terry (Gayle) Cyr, Edward (Annie) Cyr, Freddy (Anna) Cyr, Lillian (Charlie) Coombes and Diane MacLean along with many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. June was predeceased by her husband, Al Cyr, her father and mother in law, Albert & Dorothy Cyr, her brothers in law, Francis Davidson, Danny MacLean, Robert "Bobby" Matheson and her brother, Daniel Campbell. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by a reception. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Children’s Wish Foundation or Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
