Obituary of Norma Christine (Ferguson) Beresford, Glace Bay

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Norma Christine Beresford (Ferguson) of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Glace Bay Hospital.

Norma was born in Glace Bay on April 17, 1941 to Gordon and Sally Ferguson of York Street, Glace Bay.

She attended Central School and Morrison High School and then pursued further education at Normal College in Truro. She worked for several years teaching in Donkin-Morien District High and New Aberdeen, followed by substituting, but chose to spend most of her time raising her family and volunteering with various organizations, especially Knox United Church in her youth and up until the time she became ill.

She loved to sew, bake, and cook resulting in her home being the gathering location for all family occasions. She loved animals dearly and provided a home to no less than 15 pets of various shapes and sizes.

She was the last surviving member of her family and was predeceased by her mother and father, her older sister Arline Carol MacVicar and her younger brother Stewart Ferguson (Ann) of Mineville, Nova Scotia.

Norma is survived by her husband of 57 years, George, her three sons Andrew, Rod (Janice), and Robert (Shauna) and her grandchildren Evan, Austin, Claire, Nora, and Allison.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff on 3A at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and express our most heartfelt thanks to Dr. Diane MacLachlan and the nursing staff on 3 West at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
