Obituary of Jean Delores Sehl, Glace Bay/Mira

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jean Delores Sehl at home in Mira following a lengthy illness at age 91 on Tuesday, February 21st, 2023.

Born on April 5th, 1931 to Joseph & Bridgit (Gallivan) MacIntosh of Wilson Road, Reserve Mines. Mom was the last surviving member of her family.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother; Firman (Slick) MacIntosh, by her husband; Max Sehl in 1988 after 38 years of marriage.

Jean is survived by her three children; JeanMarie (Andre) Lapointe, Halifax; Max (Elizabeth) Sehl, North Sydney and Karen (Ray Freake) Pyke, Newfoundland, who lived with and cared for mom for the last three years.

Also survived by seven grandchildren; Max (Jenny) Sehl, Jason (Nicole) Sehl, Nicole Philpitt, Marc Lapointe, Kelly Pyke, Krystal (Matthew) Martell, Nicholas (Krista) Sehl and nine great-grandchildren; Brooklyn, Ceilidh & Levi Sehl; Colton Sehl, Eli & Emersyn Philpitt; Brianna, Caitlyn and Jamielynn Martell.

Mom was a loving, caring, kind hearted woman who always thought the best of people and would do anything for anyone.

She was a homemaker but also looked after anyone who needed it. Mom was a strong, faithful, devoted catholic who believed in the power of daily prayer and the rosary. She was stubborn and independent to a fault, including up to the end.

Mom we love you always and forever, RIP with Da and all of our loved ones.

Fly high with the Angels, Mom. We know you will watch over us always, until we meet again.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening, February 24th from 6 pm to 8 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.

The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines on Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at 11 am with Fr. Dan Boudreau presiding and Fr. Everett MacDow concelebrating. Interment will be held at a later date in the parish cemetery.
