Obituary of Lucy Jane Chiasson, New Waterford

It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of Lucy Jane Chiasson, surrounded by her family, on March 2, 2023.

 

Lucy Jane was born on July 21,1931; she spent her younger years growing up surrounded by her large family in Belle Cote, NS. Lucy Jane was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Lucy was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Clothilde (Boudreau) Blanchard. Lucy, the youngest of her family, was predeceased by her siblings, Judith, Charles, Florence, Beatrice, Margaret, Elizabeth, Edward, Josie, Henry and Celina.

 

Her entire family will profoundly miss Lucy Jane. Lucy had five beautiful children; George ‘Squiber” (Allana) MacNeil, Joanne (John) Haley, Wayne (Anita) Chiasson, Wendy (Jamie, deceased) Oliver and predeceased by Robbie (Amanda) Chiasson. Lucy also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Danny (Tara), Peggy (Aaron), Christopher (Carly), Sara, Monique (Lukas), Conor, Catie, and Justin. Lucy also had the joy of being called great-grandmother by, Harper, Ray and Drew. Lucy’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and her spirit will live on through each one of them. Lucy was also cherished and will be deeply missed by all of her nieces and nephews; each of you was so special to her. Lucy will be missed by her close friends, who brought her many laughs, memories, and card games. 

 

Lucy Jane was a remarkable woman who often spoke about how much she enjoyed her professional career working at Schwartz of New Waterford and at the Fortress of Louisburg. She loved nothing more than to be in Belle Cote, on Blanchard Lane, having all her family come in and out of her cabin door. Lucy loved to be at her fishing hole, always trying to catch the best fish of the day. She loved to spend her days playing cards or crib; if you knew her, you’d know she always wanted to win. Lucy also loved going “spinning” or going to the casino as her family knew it. Nothing made her smile more than hitting the bonus or seeing those three 7’s line up perfectly. Lucy had the best bingo dapping technique; if she wasn’t missing numbers, you’d have to dab for her. Lucy had a sense of humour like no other. She always knew that a joke or her no-filter way of saying things would make everyone laugh. Lucy had a magnetic spirit. Everyone who met her knew how special she was. She had the ability to make you feel like the most important person in the world whenever you walk through her door. 

 

We would like to thank New Waterford Homecare for all the love and support they have provided Lucy throughout the years. Because of you, Lucy could have what she always told us she wanted; to stay in her home for as long as possible. We would also like to send our deepest thanks and gratitude to Seaview Manor, especially the staff of Oceanview. You all touched our hearts and, more importantly, Lucy’s. We will never forget the kindness and compassion you showed us. You all welcomed Lucy with open arms and loved her; we can’t thank you enough for that.

 

Her family and friends will never forget Lucy. She will always be our Queen.

 

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford, where a private service for immediate family will be held.
