Obituary of Jessie Nemis

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jessie Nemis at home on Dec. 12, 2016. Born in New Waterford, she was the eldest daughter of the late Joe and Annie (McIsaac) White. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Dinnie Nemis; children, Karen (Jeff) Ramsay, Truro, Cheryl (Joel) LeBlanc, Victoria Mines; grandchildren, Meaghan and Jeffrey Ramsay. Jessie was a daughter-in-law to Catherine Nemis and the late James 'Cookie' Nemis. She was also survived by her fur babies, Max and Scruffie. Although Jessie's grandchildren were not raised in New Waterford, she was present for every milestone in their life. She was very proud of their accomplishments and loved them dearly. Jessie was employed at Scotia Bank for over 20 years. She was very active prior to her illness and was often seen walking 'the loop' with her daughter, Cheryl. Jessie also enjoyed spending time out Mira. She was an amazing baker and we looked forward to our Black Forest cakes at every family birthday. Her sister, Margaret (Ed) Clements, walked side by side with her during this illness and attended every medical appointment with her sister. Without Margaret's amazing care, Jessie's wishes to stay at home would never have been accomplished. Sincere gratitude to the Nemis, MacDonald and White clans, as well as friends and neighbours, for their support. They sat with us, brought communion to our mother and sent food as well as cards of healing. Also, a special thank you to the dedicated and compassionate staff at VON and Palliative Care. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral service for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
