Obituary of Mary Elizabeth MacLeod, River Ryan

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Mary “Lizzie” MacLeod age 91, on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by many.

Mary grew up in River Ryan and married her devoted husband Francis “Fabby” MacLeod in 1955. Mary was a stay-at-home mom and together Mary Lizzie & Fabby raised six sons. Her boys will miss their mother but take comfort knowing that Mary is now in a better place with Fabby.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews who love and fondly remember Mary Lizzie especially nephew Mick MacKinnon (Pictou) who was like a brother to Mary Lizzie and her siblings growing up in New Waterford.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Fabby, brother Tony (Junior), sisters, Margie MacDonald, Bell Meagher-MacPherson, and Florence MacLeod.

The family sends heartfelt thanks to home care staff who cared for Mother before entering long term care. To Dr. Bridget Lowry, and all staff at Maple Hill Manor. A special thank you to registered nurse and granddaughter Emily MacLeod who lovingly cared for her Nanny at Maple Hill, not leaving her Nan's side the last few days of her life.
