Obituary of Marcella Marie Penney, Scotchtown

It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Marcella Marie Penney, age 80, on April 13, 2023 at New Waterford Hospital.

Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Sonny and Elizabeth 'Lizzie' (Perfect) Gouthro.

In her early years, Marcella worked as a Nanny in Boston. When she returned home she was employed at New Waterford Hospital and later, Holy Angels School in the housekeeping department. She was a long-time member of the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford. Marcella was an avid dart player and enjoyed her many outings in New Waterford with her various dart teams. She also loved playing Bingo and trying her luck at the slots from time to time. Most importantly, Marcella loved helping those in need.She will be missed by all.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen (Steve) Goss, Fergus, ON; sons, Harold (Danette), New Waterford and Darren (Donna), Scotchtown; grandchildren, Alyssa (Jacob), Amanda (Matt), Devon, Ryan; and Dylan,  great-grandchildren, Lily, Ali, and Mia.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold; brothers, Malcolm, Bernie, and twin brother, Sonny; sister, Betty.

Special acknowledgement to a very special home care nurse, Shannon, and two care workers who went above and beyond; Connie and Krystal. 

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Pastor Bruce DeYoung officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, with a reception to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford.
