I had the privilege of knowing Mervyn many years ago when he was on the Board of Directors of The Missing Lint Co-operative. One of our wonderful conversations led to the discovery that he was a very talented author. I later typed two lengthy manuscripts for him which truly need to be published. They were so well written and I felt honoured to be able to read and document his work. Sadly, the last time I spoke with him at Maple Hill Manor, he did not remember me, but I remember him. I still have two paintings he painted and gifted to me - I treasure them. My sincere condolences on the loss of an amazing man.

I’m sending prayers and condolence to the family and friends of Merv. Maple Hill won’t be the same without him. He had a wonderful smile and spirit. He was a talented man and loved music. He took an interest in everyone who knew him. He will be in my heart forever. His heart was in Nfld but I’m sure glad he spent time with us.

My oh my, Uncle Merv has gone gently into that good night. I will cherish my memories of his chats with me back on Central. He greeted me with that wonderful Poole grin and a "Mugford, what do you have to say for yourself today?" and he was genuinely keen to hear my ramblings. Rest in peace fine Sir. My condolences to Mervyn's Family writ large.
