Adele Dorothy Young, 72 years of age, formerly from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully at Owen Hill Care Community, Barrie, Ontario, Friday, April 21st, 2023.

Adele was born in Sydney Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Bernard and Mary [Ardelli] Kokoszka.

Adele was educated in the Sydney school system and graduated with Honors from Holy Angels High School. Adele then attended Dalhousie University from where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors [in French]. Later, Adele received the degree, Master of Education, from St. Francis Xavier University.

Adele taught in the Cape Breton Regional School System, especially at Breton Education Centre and became a school administrator as principal of Burchill –Cusack-Cornwallis Complex. Adele was an excellent pianist and often entertained her mother with a rendition of “the Blue Danube”. She was also involved in several singing groups locally.

Adele was a very religious person. As a teenager she was an organist at Holy Redeemer Church in Whitney Pier and later in life, while a resident of Glace Bay, Adele was the organist at St. Leo’s Church. She loved music, singing and in midlife took up photography as a hobby.

Adele fought a long and hard battle throughout her life and showed her strength by never giving up. She was a kind, caring person, always willing to help. I am happy that she had some time to meet her grandchildren and spend some quality days with her family. I can say as her daughter, I am a strong woman because of her and will forever love and miss her.
