Obituary of Patricia 'Pat' Woodland

It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Patricia 'Pat' Woodland, 84, of New Waterford on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late David and Sarah (McCarthy) Corbett. Pat was a member of Calvin United Church, New Waterford. She was an avid dart player and at one time, was the only woman to hit 180 at the New Waterford Legion. She also loved to dance, listen to Country/Western music and watch her favourite show, Coronation Street. Most importantly, Pat was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are daughter, Kaye Buchanan, New Waterford; son, Brian (Gayla) Woodland, Mississauga, Ont.; grandchildren, Matthew and Dwayne; great-granddaughters Amanda and Kaley; great-great-grandson, Rylon James. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Cliff; brothers, John 'Bunny', Alonzo; sisters, Mona, Roberta 'Bobby', Pearl, and Geraldine 'Gerry'. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Friday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating and Father Ray Huntley assisting. Cremation will follow with a burial in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date. A luncheon will be held at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford immediatley following the funeral service. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
