It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of James
Joseph ‘Jim’ Small, age 75, on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at home.

Born in Alliston, ON, he was a son of the late William Gregory ‘Greg’ and Patricia

Jim was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching baseball, hockey and curling,
among others; his favourite teams being the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. He enjoyed
gardening, the beach, playing cards, curling and spending time with his
grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Jim was a member of the Christmas Island Fire
Department taking pride in fund raising and getting to know his neighbours and friends
throughout the community. He was a very gentle and kind man who was
always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. Jim was employed with The
Cape Breton County, currently CBRM, as CIO; then London Life as a financial advisor,
where he excelled, until his retirement.

Surviving is his wife, Theresa (MacDonald), Benacadie; daughter, Jessie (Joshua),
Ottawa; son, Francis (Ashley), River Ryan; brother, Leo (Marie); sisters, Rosemary
(Francis) Sheehan and Margie Bechtloff; sisters-in-law, Marge and Debbie;
