It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Debbie MacDonald on May 21, 2023 at the ICU of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in New Waterford on December 27, 1956, Debbie was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Mocilan) Donovan.

A kind and loving woman, she always put her family’s needs before herself. She enjoyed teaching children, walking, camping and time with her family.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Blair MacDonald; her sons, Matthew and Blair; brother, George (Bernadette) Donovan and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Besides her parents, Debbie was predeceased by a sister, Mary, in infancy.

The family would like to take the opportunity to thank the doctors and nurses of the ER and ICU for their extraordinary care and compassion.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 25 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Godwin Obike officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan with a reception to follow at the funeral home.
