I met John some 44 years ago as a teenage kid at a music store I worked at in Windsor, Ontario when John worked for Yamaha and boy did he ever leave an impression! He was smart, funny, talented, generous, kind and had a personality bigger than all of Cape Breton Island with an amazing memory. I was hoping to look him up when I finally made it out to the east coast, but that was not meant to be. Rest in peace John and even thou I had met you only one time at the music store where I worked when I was just a kid, I never forgot your bigger then life personality.

It is with deep sadness I learn of the passing of Johnny, whom Geri and I met so many years ago in New Victoria! We would gather at the house to visit and in Toronto when they lived there. Geri was so excited when Johnny introduced her to Waylon Jennings a young up and comer of the day! We loved listening to Johnny play the piano and did that so often when we got together. So many memories and good times of the past! God Bless you Johnny and I know heaven has received another wonderful and magical musician! Gord Poth.

In the mid-1970s, John AuCoin Sr. And myself took a flight from Cape Breton to the Toronto area to visit Melvin and brother Johnny AuCoin. We had a great week, for sure! I will never forget one particular evening when Johnny took us to a music store where he sat down at a beautiful white grand piano and played that piano until it was begging for mercy! I fondly remember Johnny saying to me as he was playing some boogie-woogie, “Watch my left hand, Bobby!” I enjoyed that evening so much as I listened, in awe, at Johnny’s great improvisation skills. He certainly loved to entertain everyone. Rest in peace, Johnny. You will certainly be missed but remembered so strongly.

Johnny shared a beautiful memory with my Mom and me. He said when his Dad was coming to the end of his earthly journey he said just before he died that he saw my Dad. Johnny said he didn't have a needle in his arm. Thank you Johnny for sharing that with me. You will be missed Johnny and we are all so grateful you shared your talents with us. The world has lost a very special man; warm, friendly, a great entertainer & musician.
One memory I’d like to share, was when the Rotary Club of New Waterford hosted the District Assembly & Conference. At a formal event held in Sydney, Johnny had his piano set up at the entrance, fully attired in tuxedo, etc. he greeted the hundreds of Rotarians from the District with a smile, a warm greeting, his great musical voice, threw in many interesting stories. He was the hit of the show!
Joan & I offer our sympathy & condolences to Lois & the family to Johnny’s friends.

So sad to hear of Johnny's passing. I had the pleasure of performing with Johnny over the years....many many times and I cherished every one of them. From singing in between periods at the hockey games to performing the anthems at the Oilers games and every gig in between.
Not only did we enjoy performing together but he always had a joke for me to start things off in an upbeat manner.I don't know where he got all the jokes...that was before the internet!!
Although we hadn't seen each other for a long time, he was always present in my mind and my heart.
