Obituary of Lawrence Robert 'Jinx' Peckham, New Waterford

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence 'Jinx' Peckham, age 70, of New Waterford on Monday, June 5, 2023 at New Waterford Hospital.

Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Nathan and Alice (MacDougal) Peckham.

Jinx was a coal miner for over 26 years. He loved going for long drives on his motorcycle, especially the annual Ride for the Cure. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and floor hockey and was a member of the Scotchtown Raiders. He also loved watching his favorite team, the Toronto Blue Jays. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. He will be sorely missed.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Pauline (Gouthro), who was also his caregiver over the last eight years; daughter, Sheila (David) Chopeck, Gardiner Mines; son, Lawrence (Marguerite) Peckham, Halifax; brother, John (Wendy); sister, Donna Peckham, both of Ontario; sister-in-law, Ann Ryan; brother-in-law, Kevin McNeil; many nieces and nephews; granddogs, Chops and Lily.

Besides his parents, Jinx was predeceased by father and mother-in-law, George and Theresa Gouthro.

There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford on Saturday, June 10 at 11 a.m. with Father Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to the Candian Cancer Society.
