Obituary of Florence Marie 'Flo' MacDonald, New Waterford
With profound sadness, we announce the peacefull passing of Florence MacDonald, age 89, on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at New Waterford Hospital.
Born in Inverness, she was the daughter of the late James and Veronica 'Bernie' MacPherson.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Andrew 'Gumps' McIsaac and her second husband, Pius MacDonald. She was also predeceased by her brother, Jim 'Bacon'; sisters, Myrna and Eileen; sons, Kenneth and George.
Florence will be sadly missed by her children, Andy (Beverly), Darlene (John), Wayne (Debbie), Myrna, Blair (Roxanne), Leeanne (Sean) and Dawn.
She is also survived by sisters, Patsy, Lorraine (Bernie) and Carol; brother, Gary (Heather); many grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews that she was frequently in touch with over the years.
Sometimes you meet a person and become friends for life. This is how you felt when you met Flo. Flo was a very strong woman and worked her whole life to support nine children. When her first husband died, it became extra hard but she did it with no questions asked. As the years went by, she became a life-long member of the New Waterford Legion. She enjoyed many activities such as bowling, darts, baseball and fishing on the Mira River where she met her second husband, Pius.
She spent her summers on Sangaree Island with her children. This is where she met many close friends. Ten years ago, she moved back to New Waterford until the present time.
We would like to thank all the health care workers, family members and all the doctors who looked after her in the past nine months until she lost her battle with cancer.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Graveside prayers will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 1 p.m. in Mount Carmel Cemetery with Father Godwin Obike officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, New Waterford. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
See me beautiful
Look for the best in me.
It's what I really am
And all I want to be.
It may take some time
It may be hard to find,
But see me beautiful.
See me beautiful
Each and every day.
Could you take a chance,
Could you find a way
To see me shining through
In everything I do
And see me beautiful.
Ma
You will always hold our missing piece.
A hole that runs so very deep.
Please take with you our little piece.
And hold it close until we meet.
Please pray for us when we weep.
And watch over us till mornings keep.
Love forever and always,
your children
