Obituary of Gordon Alexander McIsaac, New Victoria
Gordon Alexander McIsaac, 89, of New Victoria passed away suddenly on June 23, 2023.
Born on December 7, 1933 in Scotchtown, Gordon was the son of the late Peter and Violet (Morrissey) McIsaac.
Gordon was a devout Catholic. He was a member of St Michael’s Parish,River Ryan, St Joseph’s Parish, New Victoria, and then of the Parish Church of Saint Leonard. Gordon was a retired coal miner. He worked in No.12 Colliery for 24 years and then on the railroad for Devco for 15 years. Gordon was very devoted to his family. He loved to be outdoors, especially going for walks. He played darts and bowling for many years, as well as horseshoes, which is where he excelled the most; winning many maritime, provincial, and Cape Breton championships.
Gordon was a member of the Knights of Columbus council No. 3209 New Waterford for over 50 years. He was a huge Montreal Canadiens fan and attended many Habs games in person. He was also a St Louis Cardinals fan, and followed the Blue Jays very closely as well.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann (King) McIsaac; sons, Gordon and Bruce (Lindsay MacDonald), both at home; sisters, Margie MacCormick of Langley BC, Eileen (Donald) Murray of St. Bruno, QC; brothers-in-law, Donald Murray, Richard King; sisters-in-law, Mary McIsaac, Sandra Quinn, Rose King, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by brothers, Steve, Mick, Jim, Raymond, Ronnie, and Earl as well as sisters, Mary, Sylvia, and Carmel.
Special thanks to neighbours, Blair MacKinnon and Tim Jennex for all their help with Gordie over the last number of years.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 29 from 5-8 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place on Friday, June 30 at 10 a.m in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Godwin Obike officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria, with a reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, New Waterford. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. The K.O.C. members will assemble for a prayer service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m. and again on Friday in the Church at 10 a.m. for an Honour Guard.
