Where to begin , Uncle Blair was the best of the best! A true gentleman , the kind that would give you the shirt off his back and look for no praise , I know first hand , he not only helped us out with many of the projects when renovating our home, but when I purchased my shop he was the first person there to lend a helping hand with the many projects that we had going on ! Uncle Blair truly had the biggest heart , one fond memory I have is when he was laying the floor in my shop , he called me to come up I walked in the door and he threw me a sharpie marker ! He said “before I start , write a little note and the date on the concrete , he said in years to come when the floor is replaced , it will be a little memory” I am so grateful that he did ! He truly had the biggest heart ! We are already feeling his loss , not seeing him sitting next to Aunt Josie these past few days have been just heartbreaking , his kind, gentle nature will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him ! Aunt Josie we are sending all of our love to you during this difficult time , we love you so much xoxoxo

Josie my heart is broken for you. The kind of love you and Blair have, can never be broken. I love you both so much. Blair was one of the best humans I have ever met and I am so grateful that he is part of our family. We have so many beautiful memories with Blair that we will be reminiscing about for the rest of our lives. He will never leave our hearts! His spirit will be with you always.

Josie, after mom passed away a few years ago, we had found a notebook that she used to keep track of things, like small repairs done to the house. Blair had always been so good to mom, putting his handyman skills to work, helping her over the years. When we went through the notebook, we came across some of the repair jobs Blair did to help her. With each note, mom expressed gratitude for Blair’s help. She wrote that he never took anything more than a homemade pizza, as payment for his work!
Josie, you and Blair had a special love for each other. Even as kids, we could tell how much he adored you! I always loved to hear him affectionately call you Jo. I know he’s always going to be with you. Sending love and prayers, love Kim Hennessy xo

Dear Josie,
Sending my love and heartfelt condolences to you and all of the family. Uncle Blair was a gentleman in every sense of the word. I don’t know if the two of you realized the profound affect your love for one another has had on your nieces and nephews but it most certainly did. The two of you gave us something to strive for in a loving relationship. Thank you both for showing us how to do it right. Uncle Blair always had a kind word and a loving smile and that is how I will remember him always.
All my love, Kathleen

Josie,
I love this picture of Blair, in his element - working with his hands building something. When I showed the kids this picture, Maria said, “Oh my God, we only paid him $10 to do the work?” and I had to tell her no; Blair wouldn’t take money - and he had given that money to them! The dog watching from inside, wishing she could be with him. She followed him around like a puppy. She loved him long before he started carrying dog treats with him, for his new friends! Just like the dog was drawn to him, my kids wanted to be around whenever he was here. The picture of Dominic chillin’ in his little lawn chair while Blair fixed his house is precious! His gentle nature drew all kids in - I remember feeling it myself as a child. I found the beard intimidating (a real manly-man) but he was so smiley and warm and had a calmness about him that was so reassuring.
I wished to someday have a beautiful house like yours, and was so blessed to be able to call it home when I was 18. When I needed a place to stay you and Blair welcomed me to your home. As a mom myself, I now realize the challenge raising a teen can be; but for a couple who did not have children of your own, you sure knew how to parent beautifully! I remember being nervous in a new place, with new sounds (in the “boonies”, lol). You guys reassured me that there was nothing to be afraid of, and that you, “built this house with your own hands”. The opportunity you gave me helped ensure I went to University and create the life I have today. Being in your home for a year also gave me a glimpse of what true love in a marriage looks like. And I don’t just mean the always stocked peanut butter cookie jar, or him offering you his fries if you finished before him, lol. Blair so admired and respected you, which raised my standards for a man. Your selfless love and kindness changed the trajectory of my life, and I found a love like yours with Brian. You are the couple that inspire us to take care of our things, and each other.
In the 17 years I owned a home, Blair was our go-to guy. From day one he took care of us, and memories of him are all over our home. He replaced our flooring, doors, and most windows. The weekend we bought our house we were disappointed to discover one of our windows wouldn’t lock. Blair came ASAP giving us a new one, and the peace of mind that came with it. I’m sure somewhere long ago there was a guy named Jack who could do it all, but going forward, we call that a “Blair of all Trades”, lol! He was so smart, and there was nothing we needed that he couldn’t do. And even though he said electrical wasn’t a strong suit, I have beautiful fixtures and a ceiling fan that indicate otherwise. Whenever we had a home improvement question, we called Blair. He even saved Christmas for us once! We had an awful smell we could only imagine was a dead critter, but we couldn’t find it. He came in and bravely went down into the crawlspace and removed the problem he found under a floorboard in the insulation. When Brian barbecued and melted the siding of our house (twice, lol) he was terrified for me to find out. Blair fixed it for him, the very next day. That was only one of the dozen weekends he spent helping us. Though a weekend here meant he had no day off that week, he seemed to find time whenever we asked. And sometimes, even when we didn’t. When we were outgrowing our house, he offered to turn our attached garage into a rec room. He almost doubled our living space, and sunlight. He made it so we were able to comfortably raise our family in the home we had chosen, and could afford. We spend a lot of time in that room and I think of him every time I sweep the custom stair he designed and built. It looks elegant and rich, like everything in your home that you cared for so beautifully. Instead of feeling like we were a nuisance, Blair made us feel like we were top priority. He generously gave his talent and time to us, and anyone who needed it.
I can’t think of a single family event that Blair missed, so not seeing him next to you during his beautiful send off was heartbreaking. I know nothing compares to losing the love of your life (your heart), but your family and friends will try to fill your cup! You know he’ll always be with you and I pray that you still feel him. These past few weeks he fought so hard for more time with you. That’s a selfless love, that time can not diminish. I believe the love he showed you everyday, will be enough to last while he’s away. So hang in there… xo.
We who were fortunate to be loved by him are inspired to do better, in honour of him.

Josie I'm so sorry for your loss. I haven't been able to stop thinking of Blair for quite a while now. Everywhere I look in my home reminds me of a nice story about Blair. Looking around your beautiful home I can't begin to imagine how many nice stories you have. Blair was such an amazing person who was good to everyone he met. He made me feel welcomed into his family from the very beginning and taught me so much over the years. It was amazing to watch how talented he was and to see that someone who was such a guy's guy could also be an amazing family man. He helped me realize early in my relationship with Denise what kind of husband I wanted to be. He truly was one of a kind and he will be missed by all who knew him. I hope you'll have time to share those stories with us as the four of us would love to hear them.
We Love You!

Aunt Josie,
Words can not express the deep heartache felt at the loss of Uncle Blair.
I have been taking solace in my memories over the years of Blair. I loved his quiet demeanor and how he always looked so peacefully happy to be with his family. He radiated love. Every time I would make the "hug rounds" in Nanny Gillis' kitchen, Blair would always say "I want one too", like I would ever leave him out!
I just adored him and you as well! You were my young, cool Aunt and Uncle when I was a little girl, a shinning example of true soul mates, and the absolute best people that I am proud to call my family.
What a gift it was have him in our lives, although I would greedily wish it would be for much longer. Even though his illness, Blair never wavered, he was strong man. He stayed smiling and continued to radiate love. Setting yet another example to follow.
My father likes the saying "to live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die", and I think that is very true. Blair will remain in my heart for the rest of my days, as will you. I love you, very much!
Lydia and Andrew Sheppard

Blair was the sweetest most genuinely thoughtful and generous man. He would give the shirt off his back if you needed it; he never missed an important event with family and when he gave you a hug and told you he loved you, you could feel how much he truly meant it. One of my favourite memories was watching him chasing my kids around their home dressed in their Halloween costumes, playing like a big kid. His kind, gentle nature will be missed by so many. Sending all our love to Josie, family, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. We will miss him so much.

Grief never ends but it changes. Its a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith..... It is the price of TRUE LOVE.
Such an amazing man and proud to say he was my uncle. So many memories and thoughts of him that will put smiles and bring on laughter on so so many faces.
I Love you Uncle Blair, I know there were many Angels with open arms, a kiss and a beer waiting for you to get your Angel Wings.

Uncle Blair was always quiet and caring when with family. He seemed to be sitting and observing and taking it all it. Sometimes he’d smile or say something witty to show you he cared and was being attentive. Blair was skilled in carpentry and helped in anyway he could. Josie and Blair put others’ needs ahead of their own and enjoyed seeing family happy. Josie and Blair loved and were loved by their enormous family. We will miss Blair tremendously and although we cannot fill the void of losing Uncle Blair, you have a loving extended family that would do anything for you Aunt Josie. Please remember all the love you shared as husband and wife, and all the smiles you brought to others. We love you and will miss you Uncle Blair xoxo.
