Obituary of Earl Dale Head, Reserve Mines
Earl Dale Head, 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19th 2023 with his family lovingly by his side. Earl was born March 12th, 1952, to Henry and Marie (Kanne) Head of Lingan. As a young man, he graduated from Vocational School as a mechanic. A profession he held until his retirement in 2017.
Earl was employed for 15 years with Freddie Lewis Auto Body then he spent the majority of his career (30 yrs.) at Steve Lewis Auto Body. Even on weekends you could often find him tinkering with cars in his garage. Quite often disappointed that his children did not know every tool he needed handed to him or when they were not strong enough to hold up drive shafts. Does anyone know where his 10ml socket is? One night while driving in 1973, Earl stopped to pick up some young ladies looking for a ride. It was on that night he met the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Linda (Caines). Please do not pick up hitchhikers.
Earl and Linda would marry after a short romance and build their family together. They are the proud parents of four grown children, Earl (Christine), Joseph, Mark and Amy Casey (Sean). While they were growing up, he spent as much time with them in the woods as he could. Earl was a Scout leader with Knox 2nd Glace Bay Troop for many years. He could always be found at May Camp with his trusty buddy, Shaggy, leading hikes, reading by lantern and enjoying a good campfire with great friends.
He was a proud Papa and loved his grandchildren; Connor and Charlotte, Emma, Deliah and Zachary. Over the years, Earl played an active role in their lives, attending as many school and sporting events as he could. Frying eggs for breakfast, Saturday morning cartoons, hikes in the day and roasting marshmallows at night, he did it all with them. His love extended to his fur grandchildren as well. “Papa’s buddy,” Poppy. His “good boy”, Augie and his favourite “worker” and treat thief, Gus.
Earl was predeceased by his parents, brothers Gerald (in infancy) and Paul.
He is survived by his sisters, Anne Foote (Garland), Henrietta Gray (Dan), Lesa Thompson (John), brothers, Frederick Head, Wayne Head (Shari-deceased), Richard Head (Josh) and Matthew Head (Trena).
Visitation will take place on Monday, July 24th, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The service is on Tuesday, July 25th at 11 am in the funeral home with a light luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Cape Breton. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all of the doctors and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the C.B.R.H and Hospice Cape Breton for taking such amazing care of Earl and his family.
