Obituary of Russell James "Dope" Hannan, Glace Bay

We the family of Russell James “Dope” Hannan, age 67 of Glace Bay regret to announce his passing on Tuesday, September 5^th, 2023 at palliative care in the CBRH, Sydney after a long fight with health problems for over 20 years.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Michael & Arlette (Dunlop) Hannan. Dope worked at Cadegan’s Fish Plant and the House of Wong, Glace Bay. He had a great sense of humour and deeply enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his grandchildren to the moon and back. Dope loved shooting darts and playing poker with his family and friends.

Russell is survived by the love of his life, June (Campbell) Hannan, two sons, James (Lisa), Angus (Cierena), Maggs McNeil whom he thought of as a daughter, his grandchildren, Scott, Connor, Natalie, Allie and Parker.

Dope is also survived by siblings, Mike (Sandy), Wanda, Brenda, Robbie (Deb), Diana (Shaun), Glen, Audrey, Margie, Amy, in laws, Mary Ann, Betty, Arthur (Karen), Gen (Rob) and Troy (Janet).

Besides his parents, Dope was predeceased by his father and mother in-law, Wayne and Aggie Campbell, brothers, John Wayne, Henry, nephews, Robbie and his little buddy Nicholas Worthington and his sister and brother in-law Teresa and Howard.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Graveside prayers will be said on Monday, September 11^th, 2023 at 11 a.m. in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, all are welcome.
