Allan was my older brother. Like most sisters and brothers we had our differences. He kept a close eye on my choice of male friends and he would rate them as “pass or fail “.
He also came to my rescue at times, like the time he carried me

Allan was my older brother. He was kind and protective of me when we were growing up in Glace Bay. He kept a close eye on the boys whom I danced with at the Parish centre. He would ask , “ Who are you going home with?” If he didn’t approve of the guy he would say, “No you’re not! You ‘re coming home with me! While I didn’t appreciate it at the time, I later realized he was just looking out for me. I will miss him very much.

I had the good fortune to work with Alan at Sydney Academy. With Alan it was always a welcome with a genuine big smile. Behind the smile was a smart, dedicated, professional, hard working and warm person. He always put the needs of the students first He cared about them. Alan was the same with those he worked with. My condolences on your loss.

My heartfelt condolences to the McPhee family. I first met Allan in 1977 when he worked with the Glace Bay Army Cadet Corps and I represented the Regional Cadet Office. He became a friend from Day 1. A witty, unpretentious, and easy-going gentleman, leader, teacher, and mentor in the cadet world, he was respected by everyone he met.
Whenever I was in Glace Bay, I visited the McPhee residence. I enjoyed spending time with Allan, Anne, and their sons. The family was so welcoming it always felt like a home away from home. Know that your family will always be in my thoughts and prayers, and I will always remember Allan.

My condolences on the loss of Allan I am not sure there are enough adjectives to describe what Allan meant to the students that were fortunate enough to cross paths with Allan, everyday he would walk across the coal floor to get to JBC with a mile long smile and interacting with everyone he seen. In later life I would constantly see him in the rink following his grandchildren he never stopped. Please know Allan was loved by thousands of former students and we grieve with you may god guide you in your time of need and you find peace in family and friends

To the family of Allie McPhee,
Good evening, there are very few people that have impacted my life in the way that your father, your husband, your brother, your uncle his had-on mine. Always gracious, fair but firm I loved him dearly. I would like to thank you for allowing him to share that short time he had with us in Argonaut and as a colleague. Dedicated as always. A master in the manner in which he facilitated conversations and problems that we had has resonated with me as a principal of 27 years and lead the way to me being the commanding officer after his stint and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel myself. I just remind you that this is merely closing a link in the chain and my condolences for your loss. He was definitely a person that I appreciated for being in my life and I'll always cherish what he gave me. Kenneth M. Fells. 110 Yarmouth Army Cadet Corps
