Obituary of Florence Emma Breski, Glace Bay
We, the family of Florence Emma Breski, age 89 of Glace Bay are heartbroken to announce her peaceful passing on Monday, September 18th, 2023 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney with her family by her side.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Treige) Thiel.
Florence was very active in the community, including being a member of the CWL, volunteering with meals on wheels and a devotee of Saint Anne’s Church.
Florence was kind, compassionate and was the first to help anyone in need. She was a force of love and happiness and always had a smile to share. Wherever Florence lived, whether it was Rosewood Ave or MacLeod Rd, it was home to her family, as she was the heart of the family. Florence was blessed with a circle of friends. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life.
Florence worked for many years at Rosenblum’s in Glace Bay and at the Sydney Airport with Hertz Rent-A-Car.
Florence was survived by her longtime partner, Stan “Wick” Michalik; children, Kimberley (Doug) Spurrell; Shelly (Julie) Bresson; Tanya (Rob) MacLeod; Jardy (Sheri) Breski; loving sister, Betty (Nipper) Crocker; grandchildren, Jason, Lauren, Samantha, Nicole, Matthew, Ryan, Travis, Ashli; and great-grandchildren, Haley, Declan, Kendall, and Kayce.
Florence was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Matt Breski; siblings, Hattie Bateman, Margie Walker, Annie Weatherby, John Thiel and Cecil Thiel.
In the words of Florence…”If you wish to have something to bury, bury my faults. Do not cry for me, let your tear drops halt. I hope you understand that when it’s your time to cross over, I’ll be waiting for you.”
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 26th from 2 pm to 4 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 27th at 11 am in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church foyer.
Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Fr. Norman MacPhee and family friend Deacon Shawn Bigley presiding.
