Harriett first introduced herself to me when I was the Associate Minister at First Baptist Halifax, and she was looking to go to a missions event - Aaron and Erica Kenny were to speak at First Baptist Dartmouth - and she cold-called me at the office wondering if I might offer her a ride "since I would need to pass by Northwood to get to the bridge". One Caper has a soft spot for another, and it really didn't take much convincing. With Harriett, it never did. Her nephew Kevin and I had been youth group friends in our teens and then fellow students in both our undergrad and MDiv programs. When I came to Northwood as the chaplain in 2012, it did not take long to discover that Harriett was one of my most committed spiritual care volunteers, with very firm notions of how things ought to be done. We did not always see eye to eye, but there was an underlying warmth and respect that allowed us to work together (more or less!) peacefully.
Harriett's record of service to the Lord and the greater Kingdom was impeccable, and I have no doubt that she has now heard those longed-for words, "well done, good and faithful servant, enter now into the joy of the Lord.". Sending my love and prayers to the family.
Blessings,
Rev. Renee Clark, chaplain at Northwood

To the family of Harriet Grant -
I am just an acquaintance - only knowing Harriet briefly on 'road trips' to & from Moncton for the Atlantic Baptist Women's Convention known as "InterMission" - i was the designated driver for a few friends and was introduced to Harriet in this kind of obscure way - she came along with us as she wanted to attend but had no drive, per se. So - even if I only knew her this way - 3 hours there and 3 hours back 'home' to Halifax - for about 3 - maybe 4 years running - Harriet made a lasting impression on everyone in the car! She had a very dry wit, a lot of intelligence around 'missions', a memorable personality and a very defined sense of 'the Way' - for any and all situations. Her faith was her 'rock' and I am sure she witnessed this every single darn day. I met her briefly one time on a visit to Camp Hill - of course, her memory did not allow her to remember me - but we had a brief conversation nonetheless. She was very fierce when I went to get on the elevator and would not allow her access - Boy! what a 'tigress' - but for her own safety - she had to stay put. If there were any 'curse words' after the door slid shut - I couldn't blame her - her independent spirit was being stifled! Be comforted in the coming days with your special memories - she sure was a one-of-a-kind person and a capital L - Lady! Blessings & deepest sympathy - Leslie George (Dartmouth)

I worked with Harriett for 9 weeks as a student at Camp Hill. To say she was sweet and lovely is an understatement. You're never supposed to have favorite residents, but she was mine. Harriett was so lovable and happy. I enjoyed getting to know her and see that smile of hers, even if it was a short time period. My condolences to the family.

I worked at TD Bank on Barrington Street for many years and Harriett and I became good friends. She was always so full of life and up for a good chat. She was a delight to see coming through the doors. When I retired 11 years ago, Harriett gave me a beautiful brooch which I wear often. I never forgot her. My condolences to Harriett's family. Fly high, Harriett.
