Obituary of Shirley Moore: Sydney; Lingan

On November 12th, 2023, Shirley Moore passed away peacefully at Breton Ability Centre in Sydney, N.S.

Born in New Waterford on January 25th, 1937, Shirley was the daughter of the late Thomas & Catherine (Young) Moore of Lingan.

Shirley grew up on Roaches Road, Lingan and later in life became a lifelong resident of Breton Ability Centre (and the former Braemore Home.) She was the oldest member at Breton Ability.

Shirley loved participating in activities at the, “Home”, outings in the van, dancing to music in her wheelchair, and attending Christmas and birthday parties. She liked to have her hair fixed and her nails painted which her caretaker lovingly did for her.

Shirley is survived by her sister, Hazel (late Harvey) Hamilton of Midland, Ontario and by her brother, Gussie (Myrna) Moore of River Ryan, sister- in- law, Faye Moore of Lingan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her siblings, Annie (Clarence) Rigby, Charlie (Eileen) Moore, Katie (Russ) Dornig, Geraldine (Kelly) Ferguson and Tommy Moore.

Shirley was dearly loved by the staff at Breton Ability. They took wonderful care of her and most importantly they made her laugh and she was very happy there. Her family will be forever grateful to all the caregivers and nursing staff for their many acts of kindness and love given during all those years. Thank you for your care and comfort throughout her illness and passing.

We know that Shirley is smiling in heaven after being reunited with her Dad and Mom whom she loved dearly.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. There will be no visitation or mass. Graveside prayers will be held in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford on Monday, November 20th at 1 pm with Father Godwin Obike officiating.
