Obituary of Russell Farrow

It is with deep sorrow, that we announce the sudden passing of a dear son, brother, father, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. Russell age 50, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 as the result of a cardiac event in Edmonton. He had been a resident of Alberta for the past ten years. Born in Sydney, May 18, 1966, he was the son of Thelma May (Gillis) and the late Russell Joseph Farrow. While a resident of Glace Bay, he resided in the New Aberdeen area of town and was a member of the former St. John’s Church. Russell spent the past number of years working in Alberta as a pipefitter and plumber. He previously lived in Kitchener, Ont. and earlier worked at a campground in mainland Nova Scotia and at the Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax. He was a very emotional and gentle boy who enjoyed hockey, baseball, singing and dancing. He was also very witty and had a great sense of humor. He liked driving his car and his cars were always very nice and sporty. Russell will be remembered as a very considerate and kind-hearted man who loved his family very much. He will be held forever in our hearts. Russell is survived by his mother Thelma; son Keigan Gracie; brothers Raymond Glenn and James Darren, all of Glace Bay. He will also be sadly missed by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his father Russell Joseph Farrow, he was also predeceased by a sister in infancy; paternal grandparents Thomas and Violet Farrow, New Waterford; maternal grandparents James and Marion Gillis, Glace Bay; step-grandmother Lucy (Walsh) Gillis; several aunts and uncles. Cremation has taken place in Edmonton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January18, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. in the V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Fr. Leo Boone will immediately follow the visitation at 4pm. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery, Glace Bay. As an expression of sympathy for Russell, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association.
