Obituary of Margaret Ellen Bota, New Waterford

It is with great sadness, we the family of Margaret Ellen Bota, announce her passing on November 24, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Elizabeth (McMullin) MacDonald.

Margaret worked at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and wore different hats throughout her career; ending her career as a ward clerk in emergency. She will be remembered for her loving, kind-hearted nature; she never wanted to see anyone go without. She had something good to say about everyone she encountered. There was never a day she would miss a phone call with her sisters, Mary and Kitty. She was well known for her baking, strong faith in God, and her “Thursday shopping” with her friend, Karen.

Margaret is survived by her granddaughters, Amanda (Adam) McKay, Janaia (David) MacCormick, Rebecca (Todd) MacCormick; sisters, Mary MacKenzie and Katherine “Kitty” Doucette; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Alexis, Austin McKay, and “her baby”, Khloe Pastuck; brothers-in-law, Julius Bota, Murray Tait; sister-in-law; Laurie MacDonald. She will certainly be missed by her many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Frank; daughter, Sheila MacCormick; son-in-law, Kevin MacCormick, all who she missed so dearly; brothers, Sonny, Angus, and John “Nipper”; sisters, Frances Tait, Rachael Lavender, Elizabeth Timmons; brothers-in-law, Wilfred MacKenzie, Garfield Timmons, Billy Doucette, Dave Lavender, William Bota and sisters-in-law, Eileen and Helena “Bugsy” MacDonald, Margaret Ann Fraser, Margaret and Rita Bota.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held on Friday, December 1 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Godwin Obike officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the K.O.C.; all are welcome. Our family would like to thank the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital (ER, 4C and Palliative Care) for their care they provided during our time there. Special thanks to family friend Selina for always being a phone call away. Donations may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
