Obituary of Yvonne Rose Daye, New Waterford

It is with broken hearts we, the family of Yvonne Rose Daye (MacDonald), announce her arrival in heaven after a short, but courageous battle with cancer having earned her wings on December 1, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at the An Calla Palliative Care Unit.

Born on November 19, 1962, Yvonne was the daughter of the late Helene “Gran” and Gordon “Smokey” MacDonald.

She was known as a devoted mother, grandmother, loyal friend and the biggest blessing to anyone that met her. Yvonne had an attitude of gratitude and always found a reason to be thankful for the good, the bad and everything in between. Yvonne was a special person in so many lives with her heart of gold and always left a little kindness no matter where she went.

Yvonne was a unique and adventurous soul who had a love for the simplest things in life enjoying sunsets and sunrises, walks on Dominion beach, hunting for beach glass, gardening, baking up a storm, long drives listening to her favourite music and most of all, cheering on her grandkids at every game from the soccer benches to the hockey stands. She was always their biggest supporter and loudest cheerleader.

Surviving are her pride and joy, her three amazing children; Arienne Baldwin (Kyle), Brendon, Logan (Morgan); their father, Kevin Daye;  partner, Glenn Tubrett and the light of her life, her three grandchildren, Brody, Brooke and Breah Baldwin; sisters, Elana, Gayle, Carolyn, Amber, Avis and brother, Gordie. In addition, her many nieces, nephews and fur baby, Charlie.

Even in her after life, Yvonne continues to help others having donated her body to science at Dalhousie University by means of her wishes as did her mother and grandmother.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9 from 4-6 p.m with a celebration of Yvonne's life to follow all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. A reception will be held in the funeral home immediately after the service.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and doctors on the palliative care floor for their compassion and care. Donations can be made in Yvonne’s memory to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
