Obituary of Mary Angela Gallant, Glace Bay

With sadness, we announce the death of Mary Angela Gallant, age 90 of Glace Bay on Tuesday, December 12^th, 2023 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm & Christine “Tina” (O’Keefe) O’Connell.

After graduation from St. Anne’s High School, Mary attended Mount Saint Vincent University Business School and worked for the federal government (unemployment insurance) and also Nova Scotia Information Office in Boston.

She also worked for 16 years at St. Anne’s Parish Office in Glace Bay. Mary was a member of St. Anne’s Ladies Choir for over 30 years. She was a very special person, giving, compassionate and precious to all who loved her. Mary was dedicated to the church and found the good in everyone she met. We will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Brendan, Sara, Michael, her sister, Leone Campbell of Sackville, N.B., and a number of nieces, nephews.

Many thanks to her special friends, Eric Doucette, Dan Hegarty, and Elaine and Gualbert Hanrahan who were always there for Mary.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Edward Gallant, her son Eric, sisters, Regis MacLennan, Kathleen Verner and her brother Kevin O’Connell.

There will be no visitation. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 15^th, 2023 at 10 am in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception and then interment in the parish cemetery. Fr. Macleen Anyanwu presiding with Fr. Norman MacPhee and Fr. Doug Murphy concelebrating. The funeral is under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
