Obituary of Genevieve Gromack, Dominion

It is with great voidness that we announce the passing of our mother Genevieve (Steele) Gromack of Dominion on December 18, 2023.

Born in Dominion on March 1^st she was the daughter of Michael and Mary (Sutherland) Steele.

Mom always liked to keep her age a secret. For many years it was only because of knowing there was a gap of 3 years between mom & dad that we knew her age. Mom, we will keep the secret as promised.

Genevieve (Gen) is survived by her children Greg (Debbie), Kevin, Rob (Gail) and Marybeth (Blair) along with her loving grandchildren, Aimee, John, Alina, Brandon, Kalen, Matthew, Breagh, Jenna & Samuel and her great grandsons Rowan, Ben, Isaac, Luke and Hudson.

She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, John Gromack and 8 of her beloved siblings. Mom has been reunited with her first born son John Michael Jr. (predeceased following birth 1952).

Gen was an extraordinary baker. Always ensuring there were sweet treats for all to enjoy. She enjoyed motherhood to its fullest and was immensely proud of her grandchildren & great grandsons.

An extra special thanks to Bernie McVeigh, Roxanne Prince, Gerry MacNeil, and Gary Basso for providing much love and care over the years. Special thanks to Home Care workers Barbie, Kim and Charlene and all others over the years who provided care and support for mom. Special thanks to the staff of Glace Bay hospital who cared for mom this past week. To Dr. Ellerker and Cathy Burroughs, your kindness and care provided to mom and her children has been greatly appreciated. A family graveside service will be held in the spring.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Society, The Marguerite Centre or  Bide Awhile.
