Obituary of George Joseph Rogez, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Joseph Rogez, age 92 of Glace Bay on Thursday, December 21st, 2023 in Seaview Manor.

Born in Glace Bay, George was the son of the late Constant & Johanna (Szweda) Rogez.

George was employed at the People’s Store in Glace Bay for 33 Years. He also owned and operated George’s Dairy on Winona Street. George played hockey for the Glace Bay Junior A Miners in his younger years and was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens. He was a longtime resident of Wallace Road and Wally Street, Glace Bay where he loved working in his garden.

George was a former member of St. John’s Church where he served as a eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the KOC and the men’s club. But mostly, George will be remembered as a very compassionate, patient and kind man with a great sense of humour who loved his family dearly.

George is survived by his loving wife, Annunciata (Kennedy) Rogez, four children, Michael (Elaine), Michele Rogez (Alan), Genevieve (Rocky) Plichie, John (Wilma), ten grandchildren, Annie-Leigh, Michael David, Joseph, Jeffrey, Susan, Adam, Angelina, Maria, Rebecca, Melissa, ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by five siblings, Mary, Martha, Lucy, Georgette, Clara and his grandson, Raymond Plichie in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29th, 2023 from 2 pm – 6 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 30th at 11 am in Holy Cross church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Interment in St. John's cemetery. Reception to follow at Reserve Mines Seniors & Pensioners Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to the Glace Bay Foodbank or a charity of one’s choice.

A special thank you to the staff at Seaview Manor for the wonderful care, compassion and kindness shown to Dad during his time spent with them. We are forever grateful.
