Obituary of Natasha Theresa Leadbeater

We, the family of Natasha Theresa Leadbeater, 26, of Ft. McMurray, Alberta, regret to announce the untimely passing of our daughter, spouse, mother, sister, niece, cousin and friend, on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Born in New Waterford, N.S. to Shirley Leadbeater and Billy Long, Natasha went to Breton Education Centre and then, in 2009, relocated to Fort McMurray with her stepfather, Daniel MacKinnon (Daddio), where she joined the Labourers Local 92 Union. While working at the oil sands, she met the love of her life, Martin Cooke, and shortly thereafter, Natasha and Martin welcomed their beautiful baby girl Mya into the world, on February 3, 2012. Mya was Natasha’s universe and she would often refer to her baby girl as "perfect". Natasha was proud to call Mya her greatest accomplishment. Natasha would be described by anyone who crossed her path as down-to-earth, a kind soul with a loving heart; a person who always wanted to console anyone and everyone in despair. Natasha’s greatest joy was coming home to Cape Breton to spend time with her family and she especially enjoyed movie and popcorn nights, cuddled in bed with her Mama; and we can’t forget her Bingo nights, enjoyed in the company of her Nan, aunt Mary and her "little" brother Josh, whom Natasha adored. Besides her parents, Natasha is survived by her spouse, Martin Cooke; her precious baby girl Mya Ava Cooke; brother, Josh; stepdad, Daniel MacKinnon, maternal grandmother, Sheila Springhall; aunts and uncles, Mary Leadbeater, Donna Leadbeater, Earl Leadbeater, Joey Lamey; special grand aunt, aunt Shirley Leadbeater; cousins, Jason Leadbeater, Jeffery MacDonald, Earl Ford, Brandon Leadbeater, Jonathon Maragoni, Chantel Ford, Alissa Leadbeater, Jaxon Simmons, Janzan Lamey and Randall Lamey. Natasha is also survived by paternal grandparents, Mary Rowlins and Leo Long; aunts and uncles, Stacey Long, Cheryl MacPherson, Greg MacPherson; cousins, Allison MacNeil, Jessica MacPherson, Marissa MacPherson, Gregory MacPherson, Natalie Walker and Noah Walker. Natasha was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Earl Leadbeater; in-laws, Martin Sr. and Shirley Cooke (Newfoundland); sister-in-law, Shanna Rodriguez (Edmonton); brother-in-law, Jefferey Cooke (Newfoundland); along with many close friends. Visitation will be held Friday, January 6 from 5-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Natasha will take place Saturday, January 7 at 1 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will be held at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford immediately following the funeral mass.
