Obituary of Harriet MacDonald, New Waterford

On January 24, 2024, our beloved mother, Harriet MacDonald, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit surrounded by loving family members..

Born in New Waterford, NS, on May 17, 1945, daughter of Angus and Mary (MacDonald) MacDonald 'Doinks'.  She is survived by children, Mary Lorie Beaton,Sydney, Darlene Beaton, Calgary and John Beaton, Fort McMurray; sisters, Hazel (Louis) Syms, New Waterford, Agnes (Tim Boudreau), Petit De Gras; grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan, Holli, Steven, Cory, Callumn, Evan, Eric, Jackie, Beau and great- grandchildren. She is predeceased by son, Kevin (Heather MacPherson) Beaton; parents, Angus and Mary; brothers, Archie, Jackie, John Lewis and Albert; sisters, Anne Margaret, Catherine and Sandra.

Ma enjoyed visiting family and friends in Inverness, attending the Broad Cove Concert and was always up for a square dance. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing, laughing with friends, the swing in her garden, cooking and baking for loved ones and cuddling her dogs and cat and always took time to appreciate little things in life, a clean home and helping others. She worked for Maple Hill Manor for 23 years as a CCA and graduated as a CNA in 1985. The care and nurturing character she had was evident in her work.  She cared for the residents and the students she mentored.
