Obituary of Patrick William Griffin, New Waterford

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of  Patrick William Griffin (Brother) 76, on January 25, 2024 at the Moncton City Hospital in New Brunswick.

Born on May 31, 1947 in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Patrick Joseph Griffin and Oveline Griffin (nee Burke). He passed away after a long battle with cancer and health issues.

Patrick married his lifetime sweetheart, Marlene Griffin, and celebrated 40 wonderful years of marriage before her passing March 6, 2013.

Patrick worked at Canada Post for over 37 years as a postman and in the mail room sorting mail before he retired.

He enjoyed walking down to Plummer Ave., sitting on the bench talking and having coffee with his friends. He loved to bowl and watch sports on TV. His greatest joy was spending time with his son, Patrick Daniel, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his late wife, Marlene Griffin (nee McGillivary) ; father, Patrick Joseph Griffin and mother, Oveline Griffin (nee Burke); sister, Alice McGinnis (nee Griffin) (Clancy McGinnis).

He is survived by his son, Patrick Daniel Griffin of New Waterford (daughter In-law, Lessa Burns-Hachey); grandchildren, Mitchell, Justin and Logan Griffin of New Waterford and Nolan Petten of Sainte Catherines, Ontario; sisters, Patsy MacDonald (nee Griffin) (Jim MacDonald) and Carol Rigby (nee Griffin) (Bernie Rigby).

Special thanks to the Moncton City Hospital, 4th floor, 4600 wing nurses, doctors and staff for the time, attentive care, compassion and going above and beyond to make his final weeks as comfortable for him as possible.

Special thanks to his longtime family physician, Dr Stephanie Langley, of North Sydney, Nova Scotia for all the years of attentive and continuous care.

Special thanks to V.J McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford, for helping and assisting with all funeral arrangements and for your compassion.
