Dear Juanita, Jason, and Family,
Our thoughts and our prayers are with you as you mourn Albert's passing..
He was a gentle, kind soul.
I remember how he welcomed all of us girls with a smile, and kindness each time we entered the MacDonald homestead.
There were many sleepovers, birthday parties, and after school hangouts there.
I remember fondly how Albert would visit with us downstairs. He would chat away with us, engage, and laugh with us.
The best part was when Albert would lead us to Marlene's freezer full of every cookie and sweet imaginable!
We were encouraged to take whatever we wanted to take. And we did!! Fun times.
May the memories you made together over the years, bring you peace and comfort during tis most difficult time.
Love and Friendship,
Karen, Stephen, and Jamie

Very sorry to hear of the passing of a good man.I grew up on Wilson Ave. just below where Albert and his family lived.Mentioning his dog Squire really reminded me of Albert and family.I used to drop by the garage behind the house and they had a beautiful beagle named Squire. I borrowed Squire to have fun with our beagle Lady.Eventually we had our own Squire. As a young boy I thought they never knew but I’m sure they did.Rest easy Albert

To Albert's family, I express my sincerest condolences. Few people hold such warmth and wit as did Albert. Our hikes in Cape Breton and in Newfoundland were always instructive and entertaining - his company and counsel always welcome. And his Loch Lomond museum - a worthy tribute to his character and humour. I cherish the time spent with him and shall miss him.

My husband had Albert as his instructor when he took an outdoor survival course provided by Ground Search & Rescue many years ago. The night of the survival course, they were put into groups & everybody wanted to be in Albert's group. Since we read Albert's obituary, my husband has been telling me many stories of Albert - his kindness, his vast knowledge & skills of the outdoors, his quiet sense of humour, and, of course, the mannequins at his camp in Loch Lomond! My husband credits the skills that he learned from Albert & Eric with having allowed him safely to enjoy the outdoors for decades. Very sorry for your loss of this lovely man.

It was with great sadness to see Alberts obituary. I first met Albert in 1997 when I joined cape Breton Search and Rescue. One of the best SAR members. Many a thing I learned from Albert. One night on a search, I had forgot my rain gear, an extremely rainy night. He gave me an extra raincoat he carried in his pack. Since then I`ve told everyone he was my hero. His comeback? many said I should have let you be that night, jokingly. This gentleman is greatly missed by many. Sincere sympathies to your families.

My sincere condolences to Charlie, my niece Juanita , nephew Jason and all their families for the loss of brother and father. Knowing Albert since I was young he was kind and patient. I only saw him give up once when he and Charlie tried very hard to teach me to water ski. After many attempts and days they gave up. It was a fun try though. When Albert needed a rest I spent many weekends with my sister Marlene so he could do his thing in Loch Lomand with his friends. I also accompanied them many a trip to Hlfx and Amherst to visit his children and grandchildren. Seeing him go through hlfx toll booth on the fly. I read his mind that time and knew what was coming. Having a flat tire on our return once made me say to myself glad I'm with them even though I couldn't change a tire. Thanks to a passerby who came back to get us on the road again. Albert was such a quiet man. This happened many times while visiting Marlene. If I was alone nothing was said and the same for Albert. But when we walked in her room together whether in New Waterford Hospital or the Gables she would point her finger at us and say " you two ". We would look at each other and say ' what?'. I'm in here because of you two '. It was hard to keep a straight face . It was a hard decision for Albert and I was guilty by association only. He loved Marlene and now are both united again looking down upon their loving family. May they both RIP.

Juanita, Jason, Charlie and Family.
I was your neighbour when you lived on Wilson Ave and well my parents (Diane and Dinny Desveaux) were friends with Albert and Marlene. We would go visit you out in Loch Lomond. Remember your Dad always had a great smile. Your Dad was taking us out in the boat he started taking off his Long John's; I guess it was your Dad's way of showing that Cape Breton Summer finally arrived.
My deepest condolences, may all your happy memories of your Dad (Albert) help carry you through this difficult time.

To Alberts family: So very sorry to hear of his passing. So many of us growing up in New Waterford, spent a lot of time at the Heather. Albert and Charlie were always gracious and certainly knew how to run the establishment. We still talk about the "good times" there. Rest in peace, Albert.
