Obituary of Catherine "Cathy" Sudworth, RN, New Waterford
It is with deep sadness that the family of Catherine “Cathy “Sudworth of New Waterford announce her passing on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 at the age of 79 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Cathy was born in New Waterford to the late Sophie and Angus Gillis.
Cathy was predeceased by her loving husband, Fabian Sudworth of 56 years.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Kelly), David (Amy), grandchildren, Ericia, Emily (Warren), Alex and Hunter, great grandchildren, Kaeden, Ryleigh, Ellis and Layla.
Cathy is also survived by her brothers, Bobby (Susie) and Wayne, sisters, Rose, Sherry and Angela (Frankie).
Cathy graduated from St. Joseph's Nursing School in 1966 as a Registered Nurse. She spent her career at the New Waterford General Hospital until her retirement.
Although faced with physical limitations, Ma still lived her life to the fullest and never let her disability slow her down. She loved her chats with her friend Frankie, Eagles games with Elvina and coffee dates with Kathy at Fort Petrie.
Ma was happiest when she spent time with her siblings, at her parents around a table of cards, eating delicious food and drinking the best tea in town.
The family would like to thank the New Waterford Homemakers team who allowed Ma to stay in her home as long as possible. Thank you to the staff at Seaview Manor for the wonderful care you provided and your compassion in navigating Ma’s final days. Thank you to her brothers, sisters, friends and in-laws for going the extra mile, always to make sure Ma had what she needed.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m with Father Jim Oliver officiating. A reception will follow at the Army, Navy, Air Force, Unit 217, New Waterford. Burial will be in St. Agnes cemetery at a later date.
