Obituary of Evelyn Jean Kearney, New Waterford
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Evelyn Kearney (Pheifer) announce her sudden, but peaceful passing on February 8th, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her family at her side.
Evelyn was 80 years old and was born on May 17th, 1943, in New Waterford, Nova Scotia.
Evelyn met and married Raymond (Yogi) Kearney and moved to Ontario where they raised their two sons. Evelyn was a strong and independent woman who was often left to raise her sons alone while Yogi was away doing Peace Keeping for the Canadian Armed Forces.
In 1980, the family returned home to New Waterford, NS, where they finished raising their children. Evelyn enjoyed playing Bingo at the Army Navy Air Force in New Waterford where she met so many great friends over the years.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Raymond (Heather), Michael (Tammy); grandchildren, Emma, Mathew, Shara and Joshua; sister, Ottena (Brian) Murray, and sister-in-law, Cynthia Pheifer.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents John and Alma (Davis) Pheifer; husband, Raymond (Yogi); sisters, Doreen, Dorothy, and Gwenyth, and brothers, Johnny and Rudy.
The family extends their thanks to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department, ICU staff and Dr. Ajuwan. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Rebecca Mackenze, Kim Murphy and Sandra MacPherson for the exceptional care and friendship they’ve provided for Evelyn over the last while. The family also wants to recognize the lifetime bond Evelyn had with Marie Matthys who she grew up with her over the years.
