Obituary of Mary Magdeline McPherson, Glace Bay
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce Mary Magdeline McPherson, 89, of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on March 12th, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Pearl Quann, husband Thomas, son Francis, brothers, Tony and Donnie, sister, Jean, brother in law, John Vokey and son in law, Randy Morrison.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Heather Morrison Vourtsis (Jason), grandson, Liam Morrison (Meghan), sister, Penny Vokey and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mary was quiet by nature. She enjoyed reading, cooking, fashion, travelling and going to the gym, all of which she continued to do later in life. Mary travelled the world visiting numerous countries that included Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany and Spain. Mary always made sure to look her absolute best and her passion for living life to the fullest was evident to everyone that knew her.
Throughout her life Mary was heavily involved in the Church through serving mass, teaching Sunday School and as a member of the CWL. Mary’s faith was pivotal in getting her through many challenges over the course of her life, something she would pass on to her family and friends.
Mary’s truest love and purpose in life was her family. Mary was a wonderful wife and nurturing mother. Raising her late son Francis and daughter Heather made her incredibly proud and filled her with joy. Mary’s second act as grandmother to Liam, the light of her life, brought her endless happiness and their special bond was well known by everyone they knew. Mary would never hesitate to brag about her daughter and grandson to anyone who would listen.
Mary also enjoyed spending time with her many friends including Noel MacDonald and sister Penny. They would spend countless hours laughing, telling stories and helping one another whenever they could. Mary also enjoyed taking part in the many accomplishments of all of her nieces and nephews.
Mary’s kindness and generosity knew no bounds. She was a remarkable woman that left behind a light that will shine on forever within her friends and family and we find peace knowing that she is reunited with her husband and son. Mary will be missed by all but will never be forgotten.
Special thanks to the staff of Seaview Manor and Rideout House at the Cove Guest Home for taking such wonderful care of Mary in her final years.
