Obituary of John Gregory MacDonald - New Waterford/Ontario

It is with heavy hearts we must announce the death of John Gregory 'Gregie' MacDonald, age 76, a husband and brother, on Monday, December 18, 2023, in Mississauga, ON. 

Born in New Waterford, NS, Gregie was a son of the late Mark and Veronica (MacDougall) MacDonald. 

Although Gregie moved to Toronto in 1968 for work, he always considered New Waterford his home. He started working at Zenith Corp. then Kuehne & Nagel until a massive heart attack in 2007 left him unable to work. 

It was in Ontario he met his soulmate, his wife, Gail. It was after his heart attack that Gregie took an interest in computer surfing. To his siblings, he bacame our Wikipedia, our researcher, our AHL and ECHL game page finder! When travelling, Gregie was our GPS, highway detour guide, weatherman, flight-watcher delays, gate changes, etc. Oh!, how we will miss his skyping!

Gregie is survived by his wife, Gail; brothers, Markie (Linda), Parker (Brenda); sisters, Mary Gaetan, Anne Marie (Sonny) MacPherson; as well as nieces and nephews. 

Besides his parents, Gregie was predeceased by his step-son, Randy; and parents-in-law, Stan and Mary Ritchie. 

A funeral service was held in Mississauga on Dec. 30, 2023. 

A memorial mass will be held at the Parish Church of St. Leonard, New Waterford, on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 10 a.m. with Father Godwin Obike officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a reception to follow in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Reception Centre, New Waterford.
